Meadow was inspired by the William Morris' CHRYSANTHEMUM design.
Originally, CHRYSANTHEMUM (1876) was created as a woodblock print in both subtle neutral tones and classic contrasting colours which emphasized the winding chrysanthemums against a foliage background. In the British Heritage Il collection, pale colorued chrysanthemum and other meadow flowers are facing upwards to the left and right in alternate 'rows', against a field of small gold foliage in grey and beige. The background is composed of leaves and stems, coloured in soft tones to create a three-dimensional effect. In this toile interpretation elegant linework enhances the detail and form of the original pattern recoloured here to match all of the British Heritage collections.
